Housing Market Update

august 2024 housing market update graphic

What goes up must come down right? It appears that average sale price may have peaked last month in the housing market when it crested 500k. Since then it is down about 5% to 475,400.

In the last month I’ve had lots of questions about interest rates and many people were eagerly anticipating a rate cut by the Federal Reserve. Just minutes before writing this the Fed announced they will cut rates by half a point!

Expect mortgage interest rates to trend down as a result.

Take a look at these Lane County statistics and let me know if you have any questions about the housing market.

Small Business Spotlight

I am SO excited about this new business. As any of you with children know, it can be challenging keeping them entertained in healthy ways during inclement weather.

Our community gained a fantastic resource in this regard when Kira and Lee opened PlaySpace Cafe this summer!

Odds are good that you’ve visited already but if you haven’t, drop everything and go! Your kids will have a blast no matter what they are interested in. PlaySpace is an indoor playground, featuring two play spaces, a craft room and

a reading room. One playroom targets toddlers and babies and one is for older kids. Both are brilliantly designed to accommodate and engage all kinds of personalities.

Unlike public parks, parent supervision is required so your kids get a more predictable, safe environment.

The coffee and snacks are great and odds are good that kids and parents alike will make new friends!

With PlaySpace Cafe in the mix, winter in Eugene just got a little more fun!

Xander’s Slice of Life

How has back to school season been for you? The big news in our house is that Joe started pre-school! We hadn’t really planned to start him until next fall but life intervened and we happened into an opening at a delightful little school. He’s already bringing home new words, new thoughts and new germs!

Both of our kids love watching trucks and machinery at work so we’ve been taking them to see the water tower project on College Hill. Pretty interesting to watch how they take down the old structure. On a random September Wednesday we loaded up the van and took the kids to the Oregon Zoo for the first time. We spent hours looking at practically every exhibit. I was blown away by their attention span! This zoo was a special place for me as a kid, and also for my mom before me, so it was a delight to get to share my kids’ first visit with their Nonna!

I hope that September was super and October is off to a good start!
